Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese alternative treatment that promotes health and treats illness. It is a holistic mind-body treatment.
The theory behind reiki is that everybody has life energy, or ki, flowing through them. It is the same life force that Chinese medicine calls qi or chi. Illness results when the ki is blocked by negative thoughts or feelings.
Reiki is a form of spiritual healing, and the healer is guided by a higher power as he manipulates and clears the patient’s energy field. The healer can transfer life energy to the patient without depleting himself because he receives life energy from the higher power.
There are schools that teach reiki, and people can go through levels and achieve rank as reiki healers. The ability to perform reiki is, however, not taught. It must be transferred from a master reiki healer by attunement.
In a treatment session, a reiki healer moves her hands over the patient’s body along chakra lines, finding and straightening the energy pathways. She is guided by the higher being or a spirit guide, and transfers life energy to the patient. The patient’s life energy vibrates at a higher frequency, shaking loose the negative thoughts and feelings and bringing about healing.
Although reiki is a form of spiritual healing, it is not faith healing. Reiki works whether the patient has faith in it or not. It is the healer’s connection to a higher power that causes healing to occur.
Most people feel deeply relaxed after a reiki session. Some people experience a gentle tingling, or a warm glow. It is a gentle therapy and helps many people feel better right away.
