The Fat Resistance Diet
The Fat Resistance Diet is a new diet highlighted in a book by that name by Dr. Leo Galland. The diet is based on the idea that people become fat because they are resistant to leptin, a hormone produced by fat. As we accumulate more fat, it produces more leptin, which we are resistant to. We can’t use the high levels of circulating leptin, so it hangs out in our body, causing inflammation and insulin resistance. Not only is it hard for us to lose weight with that profile, but it’s also easy to gain it.
The Fat Resistance Diet tries to correct the metabolic defects by eating foods that prevent leptin production, or that lower circulating levels of leptin.
The Fat Resistance Diet is rich in carbohydrates, including fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of phytonutrients, which contain carotenoids and flavonoids. They decrease inflammation and improve metabolism.
The diet is also rich in omega-3 oils, from eating fish.
The Fat Resistance Diet is an all-natural diet, using lots of good, whole foods. There are no sweeteners, and no supplements or special foods.
Like a lot of other diets, the Fat Resistance Diet has three stages. Stage 1 gets you going with weight loss, and people lose 6-10# in the first two weeks. Stage 2 is the weight loss stage, where you lose about 5# per month. Stage 3 begins when you’ve reached your target weight. It involves transitioning to weight maintenance eating using the same foods.
The Fat Resistance Diet is a healthy diet. Whether you lose weight or not, eating the foods on the Fat Resistance Diet is a healthy choice.
